Cairo, home to the mysterious Great Sphinx and the Pyramids, is the epitome of a “bucket list” holiday destination. The enigmatic, enchanted appeal of these historic ruins extends to young children, senior citizens, and everyone else. “The Old Smoke” is constantly popular with tourists. Annually, it ranks as one of the most popular holiday destinations in the world due to its wealth of history, culture, and sightseeing opportunities. The coronation of His Majesty King Charles III in 2023 will make 2023 a very joyous year. The primary ceremony will take place on May 6 at Westminster Abbey, but the city will celebrate throughout the entire year. London is without a doubt one of the top European destinations in 2023.
MILAN, ITALY
Milan is the most stylish city in the world, yet its sense of style and beauty stretches far beyond the catwalk. Art and architecture of Milan are really breathtaking. The most renowned structure is the 600-year-old Duomo, which anchors Old Town Milan. It is a vision in white marble, capped dramatically by 135 spires and more than 3,000 statues.
The UNESCO-listed Santa Maria delle Brazil church, which houses Da Vinci’s spectacular Last Supper, is a short distance from the Duomo. Photos don’t do this renaissance gem justice. To really grasp the magnitude and awe of the 29-foot-long painting, one must see it in person.
NORMANDY, FRANCE
The D-Day Beaches of Normandy were the site of some of the most pivotal conflicts of World War II. These battles shaped the course of history. The windswept beaches where thousands of Allied troops landed to begin the liberation of Nazi-occupied Europe continue to attract tourists.
Many history fans travel to Normandy to witness World War II sites, but the region also contains ancient attractions. There lies the mediaeval city of Rouen, where Joan of Arc was burned at the stake and where churches dating back centuries remain. The island monastery of Mont-Saint-Michel is also a popular tourist destination.
